RESPONSIBILITIES OF Excavators

When planning any form of excavation, it is required by law to place a locate request with the Missouri 811 at least 3 working days (but not more than 10 working days) before the expected date of commencing the excavation activity, except in the case of an emergency. 

The day the locate request is made doesn’t count toward the 2 working days.

Timeline

For digging projects big or small, you need to contact Missouri 811 at least 3 working days before you start digging.

Waiting Period

Two working days waiting period for locates.

Dig With Care

Digging may begin if all utilities have responded. If all utilities have not responded, you may submit a “No Response” ticket.

One of the responsibilities of the excavator after the requesting a locate is to ensure that all utilities have responded prior to beginning excavation.

Missouri 811 members are required to status each ticket as marked or no conflict prior to the start date and time on the ticket.

Checking Ticket Status is as easy as 1-2-3!

The ticketing system will email you snapshot of your locate request and the utilities to be notified. As utilities change their status, you will receive updated email(s). These emails also contain your ticket number, which is a live link that will allow you to view the current status of all notified utilities.

Enter the ticket number at top of the screen.

Scroll to the “Members Notified” section to check the status for each utility notified.

No Response Tickets

The excavator is required to place a No Response ticket if any of the utilities listed on the “members notified” section of the ticket hasn’t responded prior to the start date and time on the ticket. A new ticket number is assigned to this type of No Response ticket.
